At DIRS, Islamic-Religious Studies are explored based on four focus areas:

• Text Analysis and Jurisprudence
• Systematic Focus
• Practical Focus
• Pedagogical Focus

Furthermore, there are two junior research groups researching on norms, normativity and norm change, as well as with contemporary Islamic cultures in Germany.
