Text Analysis and Jurisprudence (Mohammed Nekroumi)
The Chair for Islamic-Religious Studies with a focus on text analysis and jurisprudence concentrates on the disciplines related to the classical texts of Islam, such as the sciences of the Qur’an, the Qur’an exegesis or the traditional compendia about the life and action of Muhammad. Special emphasis lies on the development and reflection of different hermeneutical and methodological approaches, which is promoted by an openness to different related disciplines.
Systematic Focus (Reza Hajatpour)
The Chair for Islamic-Religious Studies with systematic focus expands the text-oriented scientific and hermeneutical approaches to Islam with aspects of Islamic philosophy and ethics. We try to answer questions with double relevance, because on the one hand fields such as the mystical experiences of current Muslim lifestyles play an increasingly important role; while, on the other hand, references of ethics allow connections to other special points of social discourse.
Practical Perspective (Maha El Kaisy-Friemuth)
The Chair for Islamic-Religious Studies with a practical focus emphasizes practical aspects, especially with regard to the Islamic faith, norms and methodologies, and also inter-religious references. Here, Islam shall relate not only to interpretation and symbol systems, but also to issues of daily life in a particular way. The result is a variety of cross-references to issues of Islam as a contemporary religious culture and as a reference horizon and pedagogical activity in formal (school) and non-formal (mosque, family, media, etc.) contexts.
Islamic Pedagogy (Tarek Badawia)
The Chair for Islamic-Religious Education is responsible for the training of Muslim religious teachers at university. The chair cooperates with the competent authorities in matters of regulated training of Muslim teachers in the service of Bavarian public schools. It brings together professional and didactical issues as they arise in educational fields (home, school, mosque, and more). Accordingly, it develops concepts for professional practice and elaborates associated research questions. Special attention is given to the religious self-design of the people in the dimension of their development as well as the Islamic philosophy of education.
